Chicory inulin is obtained naturally from the filtration and purification of chicory roots which act as food for active intestinal bacteria, promoting the growth of a good and balanced bacterial flora.
Inulin is an oligosaccharide, i.e. a low-calorie simple sugar (100 kcal/100 g) and with a rather low glycemic index, which is extracted from various foods of vegetable origin, in particular from chicory root or from the plant agave. Dietary fibers such as inulin are food components that are not digested by the body. However, it is mainly used for its prebiotic action : this soluble fiber in fact stimulates the growth of some good bacteria (such as Bifidobacteria or Lactobacilli) naturally present in the intestinal microflora, hindering the proliferation of harmful bacteria at the same time. Through this process it contributes to the formation of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) which, among their various functions, are able to lower the pH value.
In addition to restoring the balance of intestinal bacterial flora, it improves the absorption of some mineral salts, such as magnesium and calcium. Long Chain Inulin is similar to fructose, has a very low glycemic index, is easily soluble, with a sweet and pleasant taste. Ideal to consume mixed with foods such as yogurt and ice cream, or in drinks such as coffee, tea, herbal teas, fruit juices instead of sugar or to prepare baked goods.
Maqui extract
To increase the effectiveness of inulin, it is a good formulation to combine it with polyphenols . These antioxidant molecules, contained in various foods, have strong anti-inflammatory properties and regenerating and, according to several studies, they are one of the essential nutrients to promote the balance and well-being of the microbiota . Indeed, some intestinal bacteria are capable of metabolizing certain polyphenols and converting them into bioactive substances which positively influence the composition and health of the bacterial flora. One of the most polyphenol-rich fruits available to us is the maqui , a blueberry-like berry that grows only in Patagonia.
Interestingly, some scientific studies suggest that plant compounds found in maqui and other berries may help remodel the gut flora, increasing the number of beneficial good bacteria that metabolize plant compounds and use them to grow and multiply.
